Even if they have the audio with them it doesn't say it clearly most of the time.
Who else hates them?

Post 2 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 10-Jan-2013 20:09:45

I don't think you'll get to much disagreement around here.

Post 3 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Thursday, 10-Jan-2013 20:15:26

A BETTER QUESTION WOULD BE WHO DOESN't hate them? THE FEW times I've seen a choice for audio, I can't even hear anything.

Post 4 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 10-Jan-2013 21:26:48

I don't hate them. The reason is there is a fix, and now I can get buy easy.
You are correct even the audio is bad mostly, so instead of dealing and spending 10 tries before I either get lucky, or qui,t
I use webvisum
www.webvisum.com
It works in FireFox, and so far solved all I've toss at it.

Post 5 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 10-Jan-2013 23:17:53

I'm not a fan of them due to the audio either.
since i dont hear so well, diserning letters and numbers like that (with usually lots of background noise as a masker) is impossible.

Post 6 by louisa (move over school!) on Friday, 11-Jan-2013 4:12:14

Lol, can't stand them. I tried webvisum, it didn't work for me. And I also forgot my username and password. And I can't reset it. I set it to log in automatically, but it doesn't work either. *shrugs*

Post 7 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 11-Jan-2013 5:50:46

I do use Webvisum, but I stil hate them.

Post 8 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Friday, 11-Jan-2013 8:59:31

I have excelent hearing and I can't understand the audio more often than not.
The background noise is too much and it makes it hard to tell what I'm supposed to pick out of that mess. The audio with the sampled childrens' voices is just flat ass creepy, too.

Post 9 by louisa (move over school!) on Friday, 11-Jan-2013 9:03:42

It sounds like some of the words are reversed, at least the sound in the background.

Post 10 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 11-Jan-2013 9:13:51

Louisa, to reset your password or just start over with WebVisum. Go to the website. If you are using the same email address select "I forgot my password and put the info in your have.
If you are not using the same email address start over by asking for an invitation, or get someone to send you one.
Sign up, and using the latest version of FireFox the setup should be a snap.
If you need more help post, and I'll tell you what I know.
I guess these things do help webiste keep down the things they are designed for, but I have to agree if we don't have a tool these are difficult, and sometimes impossible. I've even recorded it, and played it slow in media player to get the stuff right, but it is time consuming.
WebVisum has saved my life. I no longer have the urge to jump off my computer tower.

i hate the audio captures... they take ages for you to work them out- it's so distorted!.
though i think they are good... at least it keeps robots off the websites

nothing i hate more than going on a forum to find bots posting advertisements or other spam.

spoils it for the people that want to use the site

Post 12 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Friday, 11-Jan-2013 21:28:54

I hate them as well, and although I can usually figure out the audio ones, I still prefer using Web Visum when I can. (I will also need to get a new account myself since I don't remember any of my info either.) The Captcha's I do like though, are the ones where they ask you a logic question and you type in or select the answer. I really wish more sites had those types of Captchas.

Post 13 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Friday, 11-Jan-2013 22:07:31

Yeah, those are the best!

Post 14 by emily 25 (Account disabled) on Saturday, 12-Jan-2013 14:18:50

actually, even though they are cool, they can be totally anoying!

yesterday, i tried to sign up on this website, and to sign up 1 of the sections was you had to do 1 of those capture questions.. but it was all at random so you never knew what question you'd get

well it was anoying because i kept getting things like, in the picture, how many squares can you see, in the picture, how many horses are their, what kind of fruit is grown in the picture.. by the time i'd refreshed it many many times, i'd timed out- and was told to try again in 15 minits

so i go back on their, this time actually get a decent question.. out of the following list, which is an animal. entered my choice, went down to enter the code, which web vism couldn't read correctly, so i ended up submitting it with the code invalid- and after that i'm like, oh well.. i'm emailing the contact us address, i'm not having this. so now i'm just waiting for a response

Post 15 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Saturday, 12-Jan-2013 16:16:07

Oh wow, that does suck. I like the one, maybe it's on blindmicemart, that asks a math question, something like, "what is the answer to seven plus eight?"

Post 16 by emily 25 (Account disabled) on Saturday, 12-Jan-2013 17:13:28

hmm yeah, i can see how that would make things a lot easier!

i've seen things like that myself, actually

on a disney website i signed up on, in sted of a code, you had 2 questions...

what is the first letter of mickey,

and donald___?

fairly easy to fill it all in and get myself signed in!

now, it's to wait to get a reply back from this depression haven, the girl that runs it also runs another site- so she should be easy to write to on the other forum, to get her to check the emails for depression haven

Post 17 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Monday, 14-Jan-2013 2:30:19

Captchas do suck, especially the audio ones. I've heard sighted people say that they are sometimes hard to read, but they always manage to fill them in. With an audio captcha, though, you're lucky if you can get it even after 10 tries. Oh, and whoever said that the Yahoo captcha with the kids' voices is creepy is damn right. Those voices could give you nightmares if you're not careful, lol. They sound like some Children of the Corn shit or something.

Post 18 by Shell Script (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 16-Jan-2013 8:15:55

Fuck captchas! They suck balls, yet do serve an antibot purpose, which is very great. But even services mess up the captchas, so I try as hard as I can. The AOL captcha took me five hundred times exactly.

Post 19 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Thursday, 17-Jan-2013 1:59:44

You actually counted? Damn. I'm surprised you even stuck with it for that long.

Post 20 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 17-Jan-2013 21:22:38

I'd have jumped off my tower.

Post 21 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 17-Jan-2013 21:26:27

I woulda said "Screwe it..."

Post 22 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 02-Sep-2013 16:52:28

they are a disgrace to society. mediafire at one point used them to the point of abuse. and youtube does this ocationally.

Post 23 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Tuesday, 03-Sep-2013 14:08:39

Mediafire still uses them too much. And I don't know if I would go that far and call them a disgrace, but yes, they're certainly annoying, and there are much better ways of keeping spammers away.

Post 24 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Tuesday, 03-Sep-2013 14:21:03

I agree.

Post 25 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 03-Sep-2013 15:20:35

i like Sendspace.
its easy to use even for non-pro members.

Post 26 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 12:35:17

I use google drive.

Post 27 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 17:12:53

I've tried Google drive, but the pages refuse to load when you want to download a file. I've usually tried this in Firefox, and waited for like 10 minutes for a page to load at times.
Yeah, Sendspace is great. I have a pro account with them, but even so, you only have to click on one link, and the file starts downloading immediately. No stupid captchas, and no waiting times or other hoops you have to jump through, either.

Post 28 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 17:14:47

and its not that much a month, and its unlimited space, and direct links via email, and i dont use 100 gigs a month and i should be a sendspace sailsman? lol

Post 29 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 18:02:42

I prefer Dropbox over Sendspace, anyday.

Post 30 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 18:05:51

what do you prefer aboutdropbox?

Post 31 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 18:10:05

Even if you compare features of free Sendspace accounts vs. features of free Dropbox accounts, it's not hard to see that Sendspace offers a lot more. That's just my opinion, though. I understand that people like Dropbox because it automatically downloads stuff for you.

Post 32 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 18:12:59

i think it really dependson what you are using it for.
how big of folders are you downloading.
also, its just a different interface.

Post 33 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 18:24:35

the fact Dropbox uploads everything for me, as soon as I put the files/folders in there, is what I like best. you can't get any better than that.

Post 34 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 18:45:42

Yeah, if you need to upload a lot of content, Sendspace is the better deal. If you're ok with the 2gb limit that Dropbox has, I can see how automatic uploads would be appealing. Using the Sendspace wizard is pretty easy though.

Post 35 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 18:49:46

i tend to run out of space on dropbox, and have to keep moving stuff around.

Post 36 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 18:51:51

so let's see. what do you pay for? sendspace, dropbox, crash plann affter a while you start payin a little money to a lot of things, and you gotta decide who you wanna give your money too.

Post 37 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 20:13:34

I do it the simple way. pay nothing to neither of them, empty out my Dropbox folders whenever I receive things, so the folders won't get full, and then transfer the content elsewhere.

Post 38 by Meglet (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 20:55:08

I'm with Chelsea on this one; if I needed to download or upload fifty gig folders then I could see using sendspace, but I find sendspace's website just a bit sketchy, and dropbox is so seamless that I prefer it overall. I have nothing against sendspace though and will use it if my needs change.

Post 39 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 23:30:42

the thing I like about google drive is that it uses the same account as my youtube account, and does auto uploading just like dropbox. my plan for maintanence is to delete the compressed zip files after I uncompress them.

Post 40 by Meglet (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 05-Sep-2013 0:18:35

How accessible is google drive, by the way? I have to use it for a university class and I've no experience with it whatsoever. (sorry to be so off topic, by the way).

Post 41 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Thursday, 05-Sep-2013 15:14:31

In answer to Post 1:
Not me, I love 'em. Silly question lol everyone hates 'em.
As to the SendSpace or Plopbox debate, I've never used SendSpace but find Plopbox to be plenty secure enough that I use it from my phone and for all my coast guard documents.

Post 42 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Friday, 06-Sep-2013 12:45:00

the only accessibility issue I encountered with gd is signing in with the app for pc, I had to use the jaws cursor.

Post 43 by Meglet (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 06-Sep-2013 15:11:00

Thanks.

Post 44 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Saturday, 07-Sep-2013 17:59:02

your welcome. and whatever you do, stay away from deposit files. they're even worse than mediafire when it comes to captchas.

Post 45 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Tuesday, 10-Sep-2013 20:57:36

Well, now I really do hate captchas again. I was using a Firefox add-on called Captcha Monster, but it's been down for over a month now. Considering it's a paid service, that is absolutely unacceptable. I cancelled my subscription today. I'm glad it was through Pay Pal, and that it lets you do that, because you can't even get to the website as it stands right now.

Post 46 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Tuesday, 17-Sep-2013 21:45:05

Are there any capcha addons for internet explorer?
